MACLEAY RIVER PROTEIN

Macleay River Protein P/L is the on-site rendering plant which processes all production waste including fat, bone and inedible offal from the abattoir to produce Tallow and Meat Meal.

Wastewater from both plants is treated to remove suspended solids and then directed to an extended pond treatment system. The first pond is an anaerobic pond,

The second pond has aeration stones which run continuously and the water inlet is underwater to reduce the potential for odours. The outlet of the second pond overflows via gravity to a spillway to the third pond, which assists with natural aeration.

The third pond has surface aerator stones and also runs continuously. Water recycled from the third pond to irrigation, the bio-filter and is also used for cattle and stockyard washing. In 2012 we were awarded the prestigious Prime Ministers Water Wise Award.
